Be A Duck: or some other deeply embedded lesson

Screen Shot 2019-02-25 at 9.48.38 AMThere are two ducks in this picture. They are both one distracted moment from being hurled through these mini-rapids to a place where, at least for now, they do not want to go. They looked casual to me, but below the surface were paddling like crazy to stay where they intended to be: right there. Like these ducks, I (and maybe you) need to stay focused and not let the current take us to wherever IT wants us. Focus is work.

A lot of people work hard, or they say they do. Many actually do. Few, however, understand exactly what they are working on and what they are trying to accomplish at any given moment. They are BUSY, but unfortunately busy-ness doesn’t always translate into business. One can work, without ever really doing THE work.

Doing the work, I might add, is not an easy task (and seldom fun). Doing the work takes three things: 1) knowing yourself and what you want, 2) knowing, or at least having an idea about, how you want to get wherever it is that you want to go, and 3) DOING the work.

The hard work it takes to be successful is not always sunshine and lollipops. It can be a grind. Luckily for many of you, you’re doing what you love SO….. the grind isn’t as much of a grind as it could be.

Booker T Washington said, “Nothing ever comes to one, that is worth having, except as a result of hard work.” Which I suppose, brings us to the next quote from Nike, “Just Do It.”
